Deliverance Is Not Complete Without Repentance
Many have labored to escape addictions, compulsions, and sinful cycles, yet have seen little lasting fruit. This is not because freedom is unavailable, nor because the Power of GOD is insufficient. It is often because deliverance has been presented incompletely.
In many assemblies, freedom is framed almost entirely from the demonic perspective casting out spirits, breaking curses, rebuking oppression. Spiritual warfare is real, and the Authority of JESUS’ Name is unquestionable. Yet an essential element is frequently neglected: Repentance.
The proclamation never separated Deliverance from Repentance.
From the beginning, the pattern was unmistakable:
“Repent… for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38).
Before empowerment, there was Repentance.
Before restoration, there was a turning away.
Deliverance addresses what may be influencing a man.
Repentance addresses what that man has embraced.
And agreement is not a minor matter.
Sinful patterns do not always persist because a spirit is strong; often they persist because the flesh was entertained. What was once desired cannot merely be expelled; it must be renounced. What was willingly practiced cannot be broken without being confessed and forsaken.
Repentance is the deliberate turning of the will toward GOD.
It is the sober acknowledgment:
“I participated.”
“I justified.”
“I protected what GOD opposed.”
“And I turn from it without reservation.”
Until pleasure is exposed, appetite remains alive. And what remains alive will seek expression again.
This is why some deliverances fail to endure. The outward disturbance may cease, but if the inward disposition remains intact, the ground has not changed ownership. Deliverance may remove occupancy; Repentance transfers allegiance.
The witness was never limited to expulsion. It was concerned with transformation. Repentance, Baptism in JESUS’ Name for the remission of sins, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost together establish enduring freedom. Power and Purity were never designed to function independently.
Freedom becomes lasting when:
The spirit is confronted,
The conscience is awakened,
The will is yielded,
And the Holy Ghost fills what has been emptied.
GOD is not only intent on breaking chains; He is intent on reshaping desire. When affections are reoriented, bondage loses its foundation. When Repentance is genuine, Grace becomes sustaining rather than momentary.
Deliverance without Repentance is incomplete.
But Repentance joined with Deliverance produces transformation that endures.
And this is the freedom the Church was commissioned to proclaim.
